The Role of British Flowers in Sustainable Floristry
Sustainable floristry is gaining momentum as more people recognise the importance of making environmentally conscious choices. British flowers are at the heart of this movement,
Freshly cut British seasonal flowers and foliage used to create wild and whimsical florals throughout the North East and the UK.
At The Flowerkind we are celebrating nature while helping you to celebrate life’s most important moments, we do this by working as sustainably as possible. We use locally grown, beautiful blooms and are committed to sourcing flowers and foliage responsibly. We are completely foam free and we strive to minimise our impact on the environment at every opportunity.
Our flowers and grasses are sourced from local growers in the UK or picked from our allotment. As much as possible we try to use growers in North Yorkshire and the North East of England this means we can ensure the freshest seasonal blooms for a natural garden-gathered aesthetic to your bouquets and arrangements.
We support local, small-scale growers, these flowers don’t always stand up perfectly straight like imported flowers, they’re often wiggly stemmed wonders but they have character and that only makes them even more beautiful whilst being free from harmful chemicals and with no air miles involved, their impact on the earth is much less.
We also dry flowers in our studio to be used for our unique dried flower creations, this ensures there is very little waste. We use eco-conscious materials and mechanics in all of our arrangements, we don’t use any plastics and all of our packaging is compostable.
Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event or special occasion, we can create beautiful floral arrangements and dried flower creations that will make your event unforgettable.

At The Flowerkind, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating beautiful floral arrangements that celebrate nature and support the environment.
Traditional methods of floristry are a problem for the environment. We understand the damaging impact of the production and transportation of imported flowers, this means unnecessary airmiles and the use of chemicals and pesticides, which are harmful to both humans and nature. Single use plastics are readily used in packaging and mechanics such as floral foam will end up in landfill.
I’ve made a choices based on how to provide the best service to you, while causing the least harm to the environment.
Working seasonally and sourcing British flowers and foliage responsibly is a good place to start. We are completely foam free, we strive to minimise our negative impact on the environment at every opportunity.
Sustainable flowers are fresher and better quality. They are grown with care and attention to detail, resulting in flowers that are more vibrant, fragrant and long-lasting.
By choosing any of our services, such as sustainable floral arrangements, dried flowers, wedding flowers or sympathy flowers, you’re contributing to a healthier planet.
Sustainable flowers are grown without chemicals or pesticides, protecting the local ecosystem.
By choosing blooms grown in the UK, you’re supporting local growers and with no airmiles involved the environmental impact is much less.
We use compostable or reusable packaging and mechanics in all of our arrangements, and drying flowers ensures minimal waste.
We prioritise sourcing our blooms from local growers to reduce carbon emissions associated with long-distance transportation. By choosing local, seasonal flowers, we support nearby farms while ensuring that our arrangements are fresh, unique, and sustainable.
Dried flowers are a wonderful, sustainable alternative to fresh blooms, offering long-lasting beauty without the need for constant replacement. Our dried flower arrangements are perfect for décor that endures, with zero waste once the season is over.
We are committed to reducing waste by using biodegradable and recyclable packaging for all of our floral products. From compostable wrapping to eco-friendly materials, we ensure that every element of your arrangement is as kind to the planet as it is beautiful.
Instead of importing flowers from outside of the UK, which requires significant transportation and contributes to a larger carbon footprint, we source flowers from local growers or grow our own. This reduces emissions and supports local ecology.
Using flowers that are in season means that while celebrating the wonder of our seasons in the UK, we can avoid environmental costs associated with artificial lighting and heating when growing flowers.
Choosing organic flowers supports sustainable growing, to help to protect the environment, and the health of those growing or handling the flowers.
We use environmentally friendly wrapping materials. All of our bouquets are wrapped in recyclable natural kraft or tissue paper and tied with jute string.
We aim to reduce waste by composting, recycling or repurposing the items we use. We dry flowers in our studio, this ensures we have very little waste.
Instead we use eco-friendly mechanics, such as moss and willow which over time will biodegrade, or pin frogs and chicken wire which can be re-used.
